GROUP EXHIBITION LANGUAGE AND THE SPACE IN-BETWEEN
SCHOOL OF FINE ART, HISTORY OF ART & CULTURAL STUDIES, LEEDS, SCOTLAND, UK

This research exhibition seeks to provide a space for the artists featured to further their explorations as they explore the power that language possesses by considering semiotics and symbolic meanings as well as aesthetic utilization. The curator Lottie Mac states on her website: ‘Language and the Space in-between is an exhibition centered entirely around the theme of language. The artists, consisting of 17 female creators are all exploring the power that language poses, its semiotics, symbolic and aesthetic purposes. We are considering what it is to be told, to be confused, to be interpreted, and misunderstood. Many artists are addressing language through the consideration of the loss of mother tongue. We also have a strong use of poetry in the exhibition, with artists exploring their relationship with language, with reading, with words- considering what they mean and what they can be made to mean. 100% of profits from the sale of the zines went to Artists in Transit and Choose Love’.
