1000 SPEECH BUBBLES SKOPJE, YOU AND I

1000 Speech Bubbles (Skopje, you and I) is an urban space installation. It requires setting in a busy pedestrian tunnel/passage in order to achieve an effect of surprise on that random passerby experiencing entering the newly created atmosphere.

The installation consists of applying 1000 white paper speech bubbles, some are filled, some empty. This division leaves room for participation of the passerby and the filled ones serve as an indicator of the theme. Some of the speech bubbles are collected a priori. All 5 sides (floor, 2 walls, and 2 outlets of the corridor) are carriers of the story from, of, and to the citizens of Skopje, and all people in general, young and old, foreigners, provincials, and any other individuals who appear in the city as creators, carriers, and bearers of its spirit. Both exits will enclose a cube with the speech bubbles hanging like a curtain.

The interior is appropriately voiced with a recording-a cacophony of voices, answering and discussing the theme with the artist, cutting the way of passers-by or visitors, introducing them simultaneously with the 1 000 new thoughts, either written or heard.

Paper as a tabula rasa in the form of a speech bubble leaves space for a picture or a story that tells/ shows the intimate relationship of the respondent to its city-Skopje. 1000 speech bubbles, 1000 different myths, memories, loves, comparisons, confessions, memories, opinions, critiques, and boasts of one functional cell which is an inseparable part of an urban organism-Skopje.
